Don't lose hope...Just because a book, magazine or article says that you and your partner's Sun Signs aren't compatible, it doesn't mean that they are right! Let's delve a little deeper into Astrology and Sun Signs to find out how compatible you two really are.
Astrology is a complex system when it comes to analysing and understanding relationships between people. Your Sun Sign alone (commonly referred to as your Star Sign) does not completely determine your compatibility with someone else and vice versa. What it does is give you a small glimpse into how well-matched the two of you may be. To get a better understanding of whether or not your relationship will work, all the aspects from both of your birth charts need to be looked at and compared. A great book to read with regards to this is Linda Goodman's Relationship signs. It will give you a short overview and understanding of the importance between you and your partner's birth charts and how they relate to each other.
So, moving forward, in this blog we are only going to compare sun sign relationships as I feel that so many books, magazines and so forth make too simple a judgement on what type of sun signs are compatible and which ones are doomed from the start. I know that all Sun Signs are compatible to some degree, what lies deeper in the birth chart will emphasise whether the relationship will ultimately work or not. I've basically written this so that you don't get down and feel hopeless when you read other material that suggests that maybe you and your partner aren't meant to be together, or that it should be working when it is actually a bad partnering.
Sun Signs tell of the basic you, and unless someone has very dominant planetary alignments in a certain sign throughout the rest of their birth chart, you can get a pretty good idea of what makes someone tick just by knowing their Sun Sign. So let's look at some comparisons and make sense of how everyone fits in together. Remember also that a person's Rising Sign plays an even bigger part in who they are and how they function. So if you can find out your Rising Sign (you'll need to know your time of birth, or get a horoscope that is worked through backwards to find your time of birth, drawn up by a very experienced Astrologist) I'd look more at you and your partner's compatibility though that avenue rather than through your Sun Signs.
Each Astrological sign belongs to a number of groups. The main groupings are called Elements, Energies and Qualities. These are important when looking at Sun Sign compatibility. Let's get started and see how these all fit together and relate to one another.
Signs belong to an Element group. They are...
Fire: Aries, Leo, Sagitarius
Earth: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn
Air: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius
Water: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces
Elements give you a basic understanding of each sign and their core values. Signs that are of the same element share very similar characteristics. Fire signs are quick and passionate, Earth signs are 'down to Earth' and practical, Air signs are intellectual and communally aware, Water signs are emotional and nurturing.
If two signs share the same element they have an instant understanding and sympathy towards each other. Their core values are similar and their outlook on life and people is alike. So if you and your partner are from the same element then things are looking good!
Elements that compliment each other are Fire and Air (Fire needs Air to survive) and Earth and Water (Earth needs Water to be nourished). We can even go one step further and look at the elements that 'need' each other. Fire and Earth are in need of another element to survive and remain healthy. So these two elements have a common cause which in turn makes them buddies. Likewise Air and Water would have no purpose if they weren't needed so they're buddies too.
Elemental groupings are all interconnected which in turn makes all our Sun Signs connected. In a relationship you'll be able to see how your core values and understanding of each other interacts with your elemental positioning.
Sun Signs are also ruled by Energies which are either FEMININE (Yin) or MASCULINE (Yang):
Feminine signs: Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, Pisces
Masculine signs: Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, Aquarius
Energies have the same characteristics. Feminine (Yin) signs are indirect, internal and represent the night time. Masculine (Yang) signs are direct, external and represent the day time. Both energies are exact opposites and together complete life and balance everything around us. You'll also notice that the Feminine signs are all from the Earth or Water element and that the Masculine signs are from the Fire and Air elements.
We've all heard the saying that oppposites attract, so a big thumbs up for couples that are Yin and Yang!
Sun signs have Qualities and are either...
Mutable: Virgo, Sagittarius, Gemini, Pisces
Cardinal: Aries, cancer, libra, Capricorn
Fixed: Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius
Qualities refer to how a sign acts or reacts when there is cause for action. Cardinal signs are the leaders, Fixed signs are the preservers and Mutable signs are flexible. These qualities relate to the seasons and where each sign is positioned in the season: Cardinal signs begin a season, Fixed signs are in the middle and Mutable signs end a season by seeing change through.
Aside from our main groups there are also other factors that come into play with Sun Sign compatibility such as Karmic Understanding and True Opposites.
Karmic Understanding is fairly easy to comprehend. The Sun Sign that precedes your own may be quite attractive to you. The reason lies in the fact that on a soul level you have already been through and learnt everything that they are going through. You have a Karmic Understanding of them and are sympathetic to their ways. Eg. Taurus has already learnt the lessons of Aries. They are much slower paced and don't have the urgency of Aries. Even so, they are understanding or Aries and their ways.
True Opposites are signs that don't share any Elements, Energies, Qualities or Karmic Understanding. These signs can be a bit stand-offish with each other to start with but are ultimately intrigued with one another. They also admire the characteristics that each other posses because they don't have any of those traits in themselves.
True Opposite Duos Are:
So I hope I've left you feeling and bit more elated about your new relationship and partner by reading this. All signs connect with each other nicely once they are understood. In the end your compatibility depends on what is present in your birth chart and how it reads. With a pinch of understanding, a dusting of communication and a gallon of happiness and love things can only look rosy for you and your partner's future. All it takes is a little spark to make something beautiful happen.
Love and Light xoxoxo
