Greenstone, also known as Pounamu, is a type of jade found in the South Island rivers of New Zealand. It is a captivating crystal, known for its exclusivity, durability and deep milky apperance. Greenstone is typically gifted or inherited. Those which are inherited are passed down from generation to generation, adding to their spiritual significance and value. Greenstone which is gifted from one person to another form a lifelong bond between two people.
Greenstone is usually carved into a number of different styles, which is important to consider when gifting greenstone to someone. A Toki (long or short rectangle greenstone) represents strength, a Hei Matu (hook) represents a connection to the sea, a koru (spiral) signifies new life and/or the circle of life, and a Tiki (representing the earth mother and sky father) offers protection to the wearer. As a crystal in itself, greenstone can benefit the wearer on many levels. Physically greenstone is a healing crystal. It differs from normal Jade in that it heals all chakras and brings strength to all areas which are weakened in the body. Normal Jade purifies rather than strengthens, so when used together greenstone and Jade offer a unique start-to-finish healing effect. Spiritually, greenstone has a protective nature. It offers protection when travelling both physically and when in the astral realm, and it also strengthens one’s natural auric field protection, creating a hard shell on the outer auric layer which won’t let any negative external forces enter ones field. Greenstone is particularly useful for empaths and those who find themselves easily effected by the emotions of others. Because it is an absorbent stone, greenstone also absorbs life force energy both negative and positive easily, so it must be cleansed regularly. Greenstone is a powerful, high vibration stone which makes a wonderful gift for those you cherish most.

Have been told that greenstone must be blessed by Maori elders before wearing?
